Something bright is moving in the woods at night.

This film was made on location, very close to the artist’s home in rural West Wales.

It features a figure of light that appears to haunt the nighttime copse but the film has a disrupted timeline, slowed or reversed soundtrack - and so the only story the viewer takes away is the one they brought with them.

*** The Concept of the film ***

'Light Statue', like ‘Global Shadows’ is a post-modernist film, a simulacrum - something which has all the appearance of carrying a message about something ‘real’ but which is, in reality, just a succession of ‘triggers’ that encourage the viewer to see a reality in it - to make up their own story.

'Light Statue' nods towards a hyper reality that is based on a belief in aliens or ghosts or gods - it doesn’t really matter which, it’s the ones you already have in your head.

Put simply, 'Light Statue' is a carefully arranged succession of video clips and still frames shown out of sequence and with a soundtrack (made entirely at the moment of recording the film) which is itself played with no reference to the real time progression - and with some of the sounds reversed, slowed down or further edited to completely eradicate the narrative.

At the end the film seems about to promise a dénouement but it cannot – it is simply a pastiche of disconnected signifiers* without narrative and so any narrative the viewer constructs is one they brought with them . . .

* Disconnected signifier - an image or sound (for example) that, in normal life, seems to tell the recipient something but, in post modernist theory, simply triggers this same response without actually having any ‘story’ behind it.
