Since finishing her Honours Degree in Fine Art at Trinity University College, Carmarthen in June 2009 the artist Pat Bullen-Whatling has begun to attract local media attention.

 

The  above article, in the August 26, 2009 issue of The Carmarthen Journal, her local newspaper, was entitled: “ON SHOW Artist Pat Bullen-Whatling with a piece from her exhibition in Dinefwr Park.”

 

Though this piece (called ‘Celtic Circle’ - Dinefwr Park and Castle, Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, SA19 6RT.) was originally only supposed to stand for the duration of Pat Bullen-Whatling’s One-Woman Exhibition there (15th - 26th August 2009 - twelve days) it has proved so popular that, at the time of writing (November 10, 2009), it is still standing and still attracting much comment and admiration.

 

As this sculpture is positioned only about fifty yards (or metres) from the main entrance to Newton House, the grand country-house in the grounds of Dinefwr Park, it is both easy and worthwhile to reach as it directs the panoramic view of Paxton’s Tower (a hilltop folly about 4 miles away (?)) through the deer park and into the viewer’s eye. While, standing on the other side, the circle acts as a sort of time-machine directing the viewer to look, not at the man-made views but into the ancient woodlands that would have covered these hills since the Bronze Age, and before.
