‘Awesome Autumn Week - Willow Sculpture Workshop’

Page 4

The work continues - Days 2 - 5

Over the next four days the various willow sculptures began to ‘flesh out’. Pat gave the children absolutely free rein as to which project they worked on and it was interesting to see that most made straight for the Dragon, many for the White Park Cow and a lesser number for the giant frog (see centre picture - Pat working on the 42’ (13mtr) Dragon after the children had gone home. The frog is just to the right of the Dragon’s central hump).  The final piece to be started was a ‘Willow Cabin’ (see main picture, far left) which the children absolutely loved - and many spent almost as much time playing in it as building it!

At the bottom of the photographic montage above (right and left corners) are a view of the activities going on inside the large stone building (actually the Old Slaughterhouse - long since turned to more pleasant uses). Here the children could make collages of their own, make masks or simply paint and draw.

The central picture (second from bottom) of the above montage shows a photographer from the South Wales Guardian taking a picture of Pat and some of the children gathered around the White Park Cow. The excellent and friendly reporter from the Carmarthen Journal had been there the day before.

The small montage below shows Pat working on the head of her dragon and three of the collages she produced which the children then filled with leaves, chestnuts and other found objects. The ‘White Park Cow’ on the right was ‘the one that got away’.

To say the week was a success is something of an understatement. Several of the children had visited Pat before (when she built her ‘Celtic Circle’) and more than a few enjoyed themselves so much that their parents had to eventually carry them away - often in tears!

Pat will announce further upcoming events through this site - please do visit us again.
