I nearly didn't make the call to Dinefwr Park ('Who am I to suggest such a thing?')
but I did make the call and I am so glad now. So, most of all, push yourself and
never give up!

Can you please describe the stages you go through to produce a piece of work, from
initial idea to finished piece?
On my walks through the landscape, towns and villages, I take photos all the time
on my digital camera which I then save onto my computer.
I then review these images and source whichever particularly inspires me at that
moment – I like to work within an atmosphere of enthusiasm. I then zoom in on the
photo and, if necessary, crop it to the required composition.
Some of these images can then be used directly for prints or on the greetings cards
I offer but, for work in a different medium I then sketch out different compositions
and decide what materials to use and what colour palette. I then produce a number
of test pieces to determine the effects of various approaches, usually on cardboard.
On the final piece, where I use textures, I generally use boards which are less flexible,
although I have successfully used canvas.
After applying the texture (some of which are pre-mixed with acrylic paints) I leave
the work to dry.
The next stages are a matter of laying on different paint effects and applying even
more textures, letting the work dry and standing back and just looking – tweaking;
adding more paint/textures until I am satisfied – and knowing when to stop!
- END -

– never stop.”
